Buts Stink and transfers do too!

Hey howdy everyone! This week has been something else I’ll tell you what! It started off kinda slow and then at the end of it all we got thrown a loop and a half. Investigators started to come out the wood works and we started to teach some legit people. Then last night I found out that my dear boy Elder McVey is getting transferred. And I will be staying in an area for longer than I have my entire mission! I love it here and the Lord is doing good things here as of late and I wish it could be with my son but I am also excited to get to work with an Elder Williams. This next transfer I think is going to be loads of fun and hopefully miracle filled!

But anyway on to a thought of a spiritual nature. This week I was listening to an awesome compilations of motivational speeches, and one line really stood out to me. It said that “Buts are an argument for our limitations. And when we argue for our limitations we get to keep them.” That hit me hard. Almost immediately the scripture in Ether 12:27 popped into my mind. “27 And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them.” Even though I have been doing better at opening my mouth more then ever I will still look at people I could talk to and say I could talk to them BUT…. and it ends up that I never do. I realized from that is though I am doing better and stepping out of my comfort zone I am still arguing for my weaknesses and by doing so I am keeping a part of myself back and not giving myself with complete faith over to the Lord and allowing him to take from me my weaknesses. So I know as you have been reading this that something has come up in your mind that you can work on and that you have butting about for awhile. Take that but and toss it out. Put your trust in the Lord and he will direct your path in leader you to be a better more able follower of Christ. Love you all and hope you have a fantastic Halloween and a great week!

Ant Man

Hey everyone! Not going to lie its been tough. The area is picking up but still moving like molasses in the winter time. But the members are supportive and we are hopefully having some good lessons this week so the Lord is blessing us and helping us to keep on trucking. with these last few weeks being so difficult it has really been making me take a step back and wonder what I was missing and what I was supposed to be learning from these experiences. In prayer and study I came across a scripture in Helaman 3:35  35 Nevertheless they did fast and pray oft, and did wax stronger and stronger in their humility, and firmer and firmer in the faith of Christ, unto the filling their souls with joy and consolation, yea, even to the purifying and the sanctification of their hearts, which sanctification cometh because of their yielding their hearts unto God.As I have ponderized this it has come to me that it says that they grew STRONGER in their humility. I was curious on how this was because in my head humility and weakness allowed people to come in and you just let them pass . but I realized that this is simply not true. I learned that as we turn away more of ourselves and put off the natural man as we become pigs in my figurative sense then we are covered in the strength of an all powerful God. And whats more we become sanctified or cleansed because of our turning over our will to the Father. But the best part I feel is we will have joy and peace because of our sacrifice. hope this helps maybe some of you as much as it has helped me! Love you all and have a superb week!

PhilAnthropocene?

Hey everyone! Hows it going! This week was a little rough but we are making it through and the Lord is providing me with strength so we should be alright! Like said a slow week so not too much to report on. We just keep searching for new people and hope that we can find the people that the Lord has prepared for us. This week we had the opportunity to go to a symposium at the local college and hear a Journalist by the name of Dan Fagin if you know the book  Toms River  That is him. But while he was here he spoke on the Anthropocene or if you are not familiar with geologic references then the Anthropocene is the Age of Human Influence on the Planet. Effectively it is the concept that everything we do as a people has an effect on the world around us. I really enjoyed it but had the feeling that I should be taking notes the whole time. But that is not what this weeks thought is about. This period of Anthropocene was graded on a larger communal effect and when asked on what the individual could do he replied that really the individual has only a small effect and that really the only way to change the effect was to act as a community.  I disagreed with this whole heartedly. I would argue that the basic unit of society or the individual can  have an effect that will lead to a grander change. Not only in the terms of geology or in earth systems but in the spiritual nature of the world. I mean how much influence did ONE 14 Year Old boy have on the world today. Because he went into the woods to pray and ask a question there are now more than 15 MILLION people world wide who have a closer relationship with God and with their families at large. So the question I have been pondering on and the question I would like to ask you is: What influence are you having on those around you? The speech that was given was mostly on the detriments of society on the planet but this topic extends to what are you doing to improve society and everything around you. Is your life becoming a part in the, excuse the play on the word, Philanthropocene? You have an influence in the way you live your live that effects everything around you. Are you being a “light unto the Nations?” I don’t know maybe I am stepping out of bounds but I hope you get the spirit of it all. I love all y’all so much and hope that you have a fantastical week! TTFN!

Who am I?

Howdy Hey! Whats going on my fantastic family! I am missing all y’all like crazy! This week was super fun filled as everyday with Elder McVey is a party!  We are just rocking it out and this week we have met some fantastic people that if they choose too will be so blessed by accepting the gospel! I hope you all enjoyed General conference as much as I did and if you did I have to ask what is your verse? Mine is Alma 24:10! Ponderize and be uplifted my friends! So I am now 1/3 of the way into my mission. Yesterday I hit the 8 month mark of my commiting 2 years of my life to serving the Lord and his children here in Oklahoma. I know that the impact that I am making is no where near the Impact that I am receving but I hope that maybe even just one person remembers me when I get out of here and hopefully someone grows closer in their relationship with the Savior through my efforts. So along with the ponderizing talk I really enjoyed the quote I can’t remember who its by and I didn’t put it down in my notes but it went like ” now the world battles for our Identity and morallity” Don’t judge me if I totally screwed that up but its so true. Everywhere in the world the distinctions and lines in gender and gender roles is being torn apart and you can be “What ever you want to be.” There is truth to that statement that you set your goals and everything work as hard as you can you can acheive. But there is still set standards and roles that our Eternal all knowing Father has set for us and by changing those roles is against His plan for us to have happiness and is against nature itself. With that being said I would ask that you maybe take some time find out who You are as a child of God. What makes you tick but most especially what gifts and talents you posses that you have been given to achieve your very best in your time in this probationary state. I hope no one is offended by my thinking but I know that Gods plan for us is how we can gain the most happiness in both this life and the life to come. Love you all so much!! Hope you have a fantastic week!
